Digipack Research 3

Jimmy Eat World - Jimmy Eat World

APPROPRIATENESS OF THE DIGIPACK TO THE GENRE:
I feel this digipack is appropriate for the pop-punk genre. The digipack seems to have two overall themes running through it, in the sense that there is the coloured, all american theme that shows a trophy case, and then a the black and white, artistic photography sort of theme. It is appropriate in many ways, as it does well to put emphasis on the music rather than the image of the band.
MISE-EN-SCENE AND ITS MEANING/EFFECT:
The mise-en-scene is strictly photographs, although they seem to delve into both black and white and colour which addresses two different sides to pup punk - the fun pop side, and the gritty punk side. The images are very obviously of American things, which promotes the album itself as it was originally titled "Bleed American", drawing attention to the fact they are an American pop-punk band.
THE LAYOUT AND FONT AND ITS EFFECT:
The layout is slightly bizarre in some ways. There is an equal split of black and white and colour images, yet the front cover is entirely colour, whereas the back cover is a split of the two. The inside cover is a black and white image, which shows an artistic, more serious side to the band I feel.
THE IMAGE AND STYLE - HOW DOES IT SELL THE ARTIST/BAND?
The image sells the band as a very proudly American band through the use of a strictly Americanised image. The lack of band photographs promotes the pop-punk image and puts the emphasis on the music rather than the image of the band themselves.
