Boxcar Racer - Boxcar Racer
APPROPRIATENESS OF THE DIGIPACK TO THE GENRE:
This digipack is the most appropriate of the lot I think. There are several aspects to this album that make it recognisable as a pop-punk album without even having to listen to the music. There is a colour scheme that runs throughout and I feel that the graphics make for a good pop-punk album with good use of the conventions of the genre it belongs to.
MISE-EN-SCENE AND ITS MEANING/EFFECT:
There is very little to analyse with regards to mise-en-scene on this digipack as it's all very simplistic. The front cover boasts a graphic of a silhouette and the bands name in a very rough, graffiti style font that looks very punk and goes hand-in-hand with the conventions of punk. The back cover has nothing on it at all except for the overall background colour and the back cover once again just shows this font style. This is very effective and is noticably a pop-punk album
THE LAYOUT AND FONT AND ITS EFFECT:
The minimalist layout and the graffiti style font are very effective on the audience because it fits with the generic conventions of pop-punk. It addresses the mainly youth audience especially as graffiti is something that is associated solely with this age group.
THE IMAGE AND STYLE - HOW DOES IT SELL THE ARTIST/BAND?
Once again, as is typical for this genre, there is no image of the band which once again leaves the emphasis on the band's music rather than the band's image. The simplistic, back to basics sort of image makes it look gritty and raw, which is everything that punk is seen to be, making this digipack very effective indeed.
