Genre Conventions

This is an initial brainstorm that we did in order to establish the conventions of our genre - Pop Punk. We thought back to previous videos we have seen in this genre and also to the work of our chosen artist, Blink-182. We circled the points we thought were most valid and things that we believed we should pay particular attention to when attempting to make our own music video.
We also answered some questions regarding music videos in general:
  1. Why do we watch music videos?
We watch music videos as they are advertisements; they promote a band/artist and sell the song that they are performing. This will also help to sell an album, gig tickets, merchandise etc. through the promotion of the band itself.
  2. Why is it important to understand the conventions of a music video?
It's important to understand so that when attempting to create your own music video, it fits appropriately into the genre of music the song belongs to. It helps to make the video successful and appealing.
  3. What makes a good/bad student music video?
We thought that perhaps one of the most essential factors in creating a good student music video is confident, reliable and believable actors/performers. Along with this, we saw it necessary that the lip syching is accurate. Most of all though, a student music video needs to be orginal.
